Paranoid Personality Disorder

Causes: The cause of paranoid personality disorder is unknown. However it is more common in families with a schizophrenic member. It can result from negative childhood experiences.

Symptoms:
  • Suspicion
  • Concern with hidden motives
  • Expects to be exploited by others
  • Inability to collaborate
  • Social isolation
  • Poor self image
  • Hostility
  • Poor sense of humor
Men are usually diagnosed with it more than women

Treatment: Treatment is crucial, because without it, this disorder will become chronic. Medication and therapy are generally used for treatment. Medication is used when the person diagnosed with the disease has a specific condition of the disorder, such as severe anxiety or delusion, where these symptoms begin to slow normal functioning. However, medication is only used for brief intervals.
Psychotherapy is the most promising method, but it is extremely difficult to establish because of the dramatic skepticism of patients with this condition. Most people require constant therapy because they will experience predominant symptoms of the disorder for their entire life.
